The Four's Saeed @srsoul Talks With #WeStayChill- Powered by @bbmarketing_

Ashley:  Saeed, my man! Thank you for taking the time out to speak with me! I been seeing the bits and pieces you put on your Instagram stories.  I know something is on the way. Tell us what it was like for you to be selected to be on “The Four”? What was the best piece of advice that each of the judges and Fergie shared with you and why?

Saeed: The judges had words not just for me but for all of the four. Dj Khaled specifically told us to be ourselves and I used that as my motto on the show. Also, Charlie affirmed there is a place in the industry for me and I agree :) .

Ashley:  How long have you been into music? Tell us about your beginning stages as an artist, musician and songwriter.
Saeed: I’ve been  doing music for 15 years. I started in a group called Unkut. The group eventually ended and I then started focusing on writing for other artists. I still had a passion for singing so I would put out a song every now and then. A performance of mine was entered into a contest to open for Aretha Franklin and she picked me. I was so excited but I still focused on writing. It wasn’t until I put out my mixtape, No Boundaries The S.R.SOUL Experience Vol 1., that I really started performing anywhere I could. Long story short, it lead me to The Four.

Ashley: Your sound is phenomenal. When you first graced the stage, I got goosebumps. What went through your mind as you were performing?

Saeed: Thank you!!! :) The only thing going through my mind was, make Whitney proud and do you.

Ashley: Who are some of your favorite musicians and artists?

Saeed: Ok, there are a lot females (no specific order) - Whitney, Brandy, Aretha, Chaka, Anita, Lalah, Faith, Rachelle, Sade, The Clark Sisters (Dorinda Clark Cole), Gladys Knight, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Cece Winans, SWV, Kim Burrell, Mary Mary, Celine , Toni Braxton, Foxy Brown, Remy Ma, Salt And Pepa, Mariah, etc. Males- Donny, Stevie, Luther, Joe Thomas, Boyz to Men, Jodeci, Fred Hammond, John P Kee, B.Slade, Commissioned, The Winans (Marvin Winans), Marcus Cole, Pj Morton, Carl Thomas, Biggie Smalls, Jay Z, Rascal Flatt, Michael Jackson, etc.

Ashley:  Besides working with Lalah Hathaway, who are some of the other big names that you have worked with throughout your career?

Saeed: Dorinda Clark Cole, Shontelle Layne, Trinitee 5:7, and Wes Morgan just to name a few.

Ashley: Finish the sentence: To me, music is

Saeed: SOUL , Music is my release, music is where I find peace, but at the same time music can be a headache because music is business and although business is necessary it isn’t always fun.

Ashley:  Where are you originally from? Where were you born?

Saeed:  I’m from Brooklyn, NY-- Flatbush to be exact.

Ashley: What was it like for you growing up? Did you have anyone in your family who was talented musically that inspired you?

Saeed: My Mother is a vocal beast!! She never got to pursue her career in music outside of church so I’m doing it for her. All my Aunts can sing as well but I learned a lot from my Auntie Auntie Auntie to the 3rd power, she was our choir director at church.

Ashley: On The Four, who was your favorite judge and why?

Saeed:  I love them all because they believed in me but if I had to choose it would be Dj Khaled. He lives he life with positive energy around him and that’s how I choose to live. Not to mention, his story is a little similar to mine. He had a lot of people telling him NO. He started off big in Jamaica and now you can’t turn on the radio without hearing, Another one lol! HE’S THE BEST!
Ashley:  Competition is competition. Everyone has to eat, but if you had to choose any one of the contestants to collaborate with, who would you choose and why?

Saeed: Man that's a hard one but it’s between Zhavia, Lex Lu, or Cocoa Sarai.

Ashley: Who are some artists you’d like to write songs for?

Saeed: Brandy, Rihanna, Beyonce, Faith Evans, Sza, Alessia Cara, Bruno Mars, Maroon 5, Sam Smith, Kendrick Lamar and Cardi B

Ashley: The music industry changes practically every day. If you could share any piece of advice to anyone in the music game, what would it be?

Saeed: Read everything!!!!! And don’t get discouraged. Sometimes it takes other people to see how dope you are in order for the “powers that be” to see.

Ashley:   Do you ever get compared to other artists or musicians?

Saeed: I get Wanya and Gospel Artist Marcus Cole.

Ashley:  Do you have any siblings? Yes 21 of them.

Ashley:  What were you like as a kid growing up?

Saeed:  I was a nice kid with a bad mouth (Thanks to my sister lol! ) . I loved hurch, singing, and pizza lol! I didn’t play video games like that, I would rather sing or write songs. I was different but it paid off... I’m talking to you guys :)
